Biography

Monica Steuer is an internationally renowned actress who has worked in several countries including the USA, Mexico, Scotland, Peru and Puerto Rico. Extremely versatile, she has been cast as American, German, Cuban and Latin American as well as in nondescript roles.

Monica graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC, receiving the Charles Jehlinger Award for Best Actress and the Grace Kelly scholarship.

In the USA her stage work includes plays from such well-know authors as Lynn Nottage, Migdalia Cruz, Maria Irene Fornés, Calderon de la Barca, Federico Garcia Lorca and Nelson Rodriguez; among many others. She was last seen in the world premiere of Sheltered at the Cell Theater and currently stars in Los Soles Truncos at the Spanish Repertory Theater, both in NYC. Monica is happy to be doing theater again in Spanish!

On the big screen Monica has worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Leguizamo, Harvey Keitel, Ana Ortiz & Gina Rodriguez, as well as with Jaime Camil and the incredibly talented Lin Manuel Miranda, with whom she had the pleasure to co-star in the film Looking for Maria Sanchez. Her leading role in the award winning comedy Destiny Has No Favorites, shot in Peru, earned her the GOLDEN PAOA Award for Best Actress at the Viña del Mar International Film festival in Chile. Destiny was screened in several film festivals around the world, including the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival in France.

On television, you can see Monica in Netflix’s The Politician, where she got to play a hilarious over-the-top character in season 2/episode 7! She was also on ABC’s Emergency Call  and she guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU alongside Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni. She was a series regular on the web series Haute & Bothered on teen.com.

As a Voice-Over artist Monica has been extremely successful. Fluent in English, and fluent/native in Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, she has recorded numerous commercials, industrials, audiobooks and ESL programs. She can currently be heard on spots for Wicked, Humana and AARP. Monica was the voice for Macys, in Spanish, for more than 11 years and on HBO Sports she dubbed into Spanish such shows as Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel and The Fight Game with Jim Lampley.  She has also recorded many audiobooks for The Library of Congress and Recorded Books. When it comes to animation, Monica played Caillou’s mommy in Portuguese, as well as other roles, for several years. She has a recording studio at home and she is also available for coaching and monitoring.

When Monica is not working, she enjoys traveling, nature, outdoor activities such as hiking and bike riding and she is a fierce ping pong player as well! Music and dance play an important role in her life and you may find her ‘grooving’ to a song just about anywhere! She appreciates the company of family and friends and she is a huge animal lover and advocate.

Monica has been the recipient of several awards for her stage work  – Three ACE Awards and Seven HOLA Awards as well as a Best Actress nomination for her role in SWEAT by The Philadelphia Theater Critics’ Awards.  She also holds a B.A. in Psychology from the United States International University where she graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE.
